More Reliable and Sustainable Energy in the USA; has the USA become world's frontrunner in smarter grid programs?

For many years, U.S. State and Federal policy makers and utility regulators have promoted energy efficiency, demand response, and smarter energy choices. However, with the recent injection of nearly $45B in stimulus funding for the Energy sector, U.S. policy makers are seeking to rapidly increase and expand current efficiency efforts by modernization the electric power grid through introduction of 'smart grid' technologies and applications. The smart grid movement seeks to facilitate environmentally-friendly fuel choices, reduce reliance on fossil sources, and transform the nation's power grids to become more secure and reliable. The policy and practical experiences of this implementation and what Europe and the US can learn from each other will be dealt with during the congress.
