Omschrijving Title:
"Gate terminal (Rotterdam) as marker how to deal with challenges in development of LNG receiving terminals"

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is being transported and traded world-wide for over 40 years, and within this period standards were developed, and significant advances in maximum feasible unit dimensions achieved, leading to impressive cost reductions, making natural gas supplied via the LNG route competitive with pipeline supplies from larger distances. The presentation on the 3rd of September introduces the current LNG trade patterns and trends, and introduces typical LNG terminal functions and components. Site selection considerations, using the Rotterdam project as example will be reviewed, and subsequently the design and construction progress of the Gate terminal will be illustrated, such as requirements to site preparation, the use of waste heat synergy to reduce immissions, and the LNG storage tanks, forming a major element in each onshore terminal complex. Finally we will review new challenges that face our traditional LNG terminal world, such as the unresolved waste of energy in vaporizing LNG, the competition from floating regas terminals, and new initiatives to bring LNG further downstream in the energy chain.

Presentation will be in English.
